Harold W. McGraw, Jr. Center for Business Journalism Fellowship 2020 for Business Journalists ($USD $15,000)

Application Deadline: January 10, 2020.

The Harold W. McGraw, Jr. Center for Business Journalism, an initiative of the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at the City University of New York, began offering Fellowships to accomplished journalists in the summer of 2014. Nearly three dozen veteran journalists have since been awarded grants of up to $15,000
.
The aim of the McGraw Fellowship for Business Journalism is to support high-impact, ambitious coverage of critical issues related to the global economy, finance, and business. In an age when many news organizations no longer have the resources to tackle complex, time-consuming stories, the Fellowships enable experienced journalists to do the deep reporting needed to produce a serious piece of investigative or enterprise journalism.

Eligibility

The McGraw Fellowship for Business Journalism is open to anyone with at least five years professional experience in journalism.
Freelance journalists, as well as reporters and editors currently working at a news organization or a journalism non-profit, may apply.

How to Apply

Applicants should submit a well-focused story proposal of no more than three pages through the accompanying online form.
Think of it as pitch, much like you would submit to an editor at a newspaper, magazine, digital outlet, or radio station: give us enough preliminary reporting and documentation to demonstrate that the story is solid.
The proposal should highlight what’s new and significant about the story, why it matters and what its potential impact might be.

The proposal should also note where significant stories on the subject have run elsewhere and how the proposed piece would differ.
Applicants should also briefly outline a proposed reporting plan and a timeline for completing the story, and let us know if a media outlet is lined up to run the story.

How to apply for a Master’s program
  2. Rank your programs
The ranking of the Master’s programs that you applied for (no. 1 to 4) is crucial for the assessment of your scholarship application. To maximize your chances of being offered a scholarship from Chalmers you should select a Chalmers program as your number one priority.
    Ranking of Master’s programs

The scholarship application for the academic year 2020/2021

The scholarship application is an online application, consisting of two steps. We encourage you to apply for scholarships as soon as possible since this will greatly expedite the assessment process. However, there is no correlation between how early an application is made and the likelihood of receiving a scholarship.

Note, you must first make an online application to one or several Master’s programs at Chalmers at the website universityadmissions.se (see section 1-3 above). Each applicant is assigned an 8 digit application number (from your application for Master’s programs at universityadmissions.se) and this number is required in order to complete the application (step 2 below).
Step 1
Fill in and submit the request to obtain a personal link to your scholarship application form. The form will be distributed from November and onwards. It will take a few working days to receive your personal link (by e-mail).
You must make sure to use the same e-mail address as in your account at  universityadmissions.se

Open the on-line request and submit it in order to obtain the
personal link to your scholarship application form
Step 2
Soon after you have submitted the request (step 1), you will be sent a personal link to the scholarship application form. Please note that it may take a few days until you receive the link. If you have not received it, please check your junk mail.
Make sure to have your application number from universityadmissions.se at hand (you will find your application number at the application you submitted for Chalmers at your account at universityadmissions.se). This is of extreme importance since your scholarship application is connected to your current application number on universityadmissions.se. The number will start with digit 1 and it is required in order to complete the application.
In this step, you will also be prompted to submit a letter of (intent) motivation in your personal account at universityadmisisons.se. If you haven’t done it already, be sure to do so before the 1st of February.
Please note that the electronic application form is used only for the scholarships awarded by Chalmers. You may apply for multiple scholarships provided that the eligibility requirements are fulfilled.
All submitted data must be verifiable against the documents submitted as part of your Master’s program application at universityadmissions.se
Your scholarship application will not be considered unless you have paid the application fee and uploaded required documents on universityadmissions.se by 1 February 2020. An incomplete scholarship application will not be considered.

Notification and mandatory confirmation of awarded scholarships

Scholarship notifications will be sent out by e-mail by Chalmers between March and the end of April or beginning of May at the latest.
All applicants will receive an email with information regardless of whether or not they have been awarded a scholarship. In order to keep your scholarship offer, you have to confirm that you accept the offered scholarship. Instructions will follow in your scholarship offer notification. Make sure to confirm by the specified deadline.

Are you a young African between the ages of 18 and 28 and currently residing in Africa?  Here is another chance for you to have your say on building your nation and continent! As you know, Africa’s exponential youth growth comes with immense opportunities for you to inject fresh ideas, vibrancy, and optimism into addressing many of Africa’s challenges.

The #Blog4Dev series is a writing competition in which young people compete and submit written solutions on a topical challenge. It tests creativity, innovation, and looks for something with the potential of being scaled-up. It also helps engage youth to become integral to the development process in their countries.
In 2014, the World Bank Kenya office launched the Blog4Dev competition, an annual writing contest that invites young people to weigh in on a topic critical to the country’s economic development. The competition is a way to engage Africa’s young people and provide a platform to share their views—and solutions—about development topics that are important to them.
Since then, Blog4Dev has grown to include the voices of hundreds of young people from countries throughout the region who have submitted blogs on topics such as how to end gender-based violence to debating the role of the private sector in public service delivery. The competition tests originality, creativity, and innovation.
This year, for the first time, the World Bank Africa Region is hosting a regional blog competition, inviting young people from 48 countries to share their ideas for how they, and other young people, can prepare themselves for the digital economy and a technology-driven workplace.
The World Bank — and indeed the world — wants to hear from you. Share your views by answering the following question: “What will it take to end child marriage in your country?”  Be bold, be creative, be practical – chart an inclusive and impactful path to progress for your continent.
